Making Quilts For Friends

Today I finished a quilt I am making for Claire, a friend from work. I do hope she likes it!

I found a picture of Pinterest I liked where the colours went from red to yellow
see it here that I really liked and although I didnt have as many colours in my Kate Spain - Grand Canal charm pack, I thought I could try it out. I went for Gotham Grey from Kona cotton see it here

After making lots and lots of half square triangles (4 per charm square) using the sew all the way round cut across the diagonal method I then played for ages with the colour placement.

I teased her on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/redhoodssewingbasket/

and posted her pictures regularly!

I went for using the same colours for each block. I loved the orange one! I think this is my favourite!

When I framed it with the fabric I wondered what I could do with the border

So one evening I needle turned Cwtch (Welsh for cuddle) onto a strip of fabric. I contemplated doing this on the border but although I love it I thought it wasn't right for my friend. I decided to put it on the back instead!

So I needed to put it together as a sandwich and tried the taping the back down before safety pinning it! Oh to be recommended! No nasty folds in my backing! 😀😀😀

Free motion quilting! And more teases for Claire!

Here's my favorite block! Still my favorite! Claire is definitely quilt worthy because she oohs and ahhs in all the right places. I have quilted it to death and tried lots of new things! Serpentine curves are HARD! they need a lot more practice!

Here is my work table. It's tiny and I need to fold the quilt up so it doesn't drag. I dream of a huge table one day!

Hand finished the binding and draped for some handsome shots!

Can you see that I quilted the lettering 'Cwtch' into the binding?

All done!

I am loving it because it is so bright.

What's next?
Well I have a baby quilt, wedding item and a stack of UFO's so come back and see which I choose!
